Porn and the Teenage Brain

New research has come out recently talking about the effects of pornography on the teen brain (be sure to scroll to bottom for info graphic).  You can check out the statistics on the chart below, but science tells us that a teenagers brain is more susceptible to addiction and damaging effects from exposure to porn.

In order to help your child navigate those years, it is important to have age appropriate conversations along the way beginning years before they become teens.  When we wait well into the teen years to have conversations, chances are they have already been exposed to mature content either by peers or by accident online.  They will formulate their opinions on the matter before we have the opportunity to guide them if we wait too long.

Why is this such an important matter?

It is critical because porn isn’t reality and our kids deserve better than the lies they are being sold.

1. The sad truth is most actors/actresses are addicted to substances to cope with the emotional fallout of making people objects instead of humans.

2. Objectification of humans. We wonder where rape culture and the sex slavery epidemic has come from but tolerating and celebrating porn is one of the main culprits. There are a number of activist voices who were formerly in the industry that tell of rampant rape and violence on sets. You can’t have good fruit from rotten roots. It is a multi-billion dollar business built in the premise of using people and others to get what you want.

“It’s just a picture or a video, chill out!”

Consuming porn is much more than spending a few minutes gazing a screen, it becomes a cancer in our soul that creates “people are objects for my gratification” viewpoint.

What happens when you finally meet “the one” you want to have a real life connection with?   Regular porn use actually re-wires your brain to have less bonding and connection with a real person, besides the fact that you have trained your mind to see that person as someone to gratify you instead of someone to share your heart and soul with.

The list goes on and on.. ..

Sex was a gift to be given not a pleasure to be exploited or taken.

More sex talk?
